London Cat Village

I don’t know who first came up with the cat café idea, but it clearly was a brilliant one! London has at least two, as far as I know, and my favourite is the London Cat Village in Shoreditch.

The café is easy to spot from at least a block away: it is the place where there is always someone standing outside the window and staring inside fondly.

As you knock on the door, get allowed in, take your shoes off and change to slippers provided, you literally find yourself in a cat-lover’s paradise!

There are about a dozen of cats here, and at least one third of them are always asleep at any given time, which is not at all surprising, given that cats sleep around 16 hours a day!

It is, however, surprising to see how exactly some of them are sleeping: they either look simply funny and super cute, or extremely uncomfortable and I struggle to imagine how any creature could possibly sleep like that:

There are lots of shelves and other open and closed spaces for cats to hide, and you constantly feel watched, even if you don’t realise at first, where exactly you’re being watched from.

IMG_1601

That’s the first American Curl that I’ve ever seen in my life, too bad I don’t know its name!

IMG_1604

It looks like sitting in baskets and observing everyone from there is so much fun!

This is Mawz, who has been assigned the position of Evil Manager in the café. The poor animal is not actually evil at all, it just has a very grumpy face!

IMG_1609

Aren’t those green eyes just gorgeous? That’s Misty, by the way!

IMG_1610

Nunu has taken someone’s armchair, and is sitting there as naturally as if it belonged to her. By the way, the fur of the cats here is so silky soft!

IMG_1611

I would say, blue eyes absolutely look as gorgeous, as green eyes.

IMG_1612

Apparently, toilette is a very important procedure during any cat’s day!

We are told that if we order food, we have to watch it carefully, as cats are very curious creatures and would definitely be very interested and try to taste it as well. Here is the confirmation:

IMG_1615

The staff offers the visitors some little treats to feed the cats, and the cats get extremely excited about it – it must be very tasty!

IMG_1619

That is what I call – “like a boss”!

IMG_1620

When the cats aren’t sleeping or just being lazy, they are really keen to play!

IMG_1622

IMG_1626

Looks like a conflict might be brewing here, at least those are really serious looks the two cats are exchanging!

IMG_1627

Something interesting is happening down there, and some of the furry felines are now considering leaving their comfortable shelves and joining others!

On your marks, get set, go!

IMG_1633

And victory! Someone’s got the trophy!

IMG_1637

In the meantime, my mum and I are enjoying very nice goji berry & pomegranate tea…

IMG_1634

… and this lovely Siamese animal is enjoying some dry cat food from the common bowl.

IMG_1644

The café also has a downstairs area, where there is some kind of interaction going on.

IMG_1643

That’s a cat-only area, no entrance for human beings!
